Mike Flanagan's Carrie Series Sets October Release on Prime

Mike Flanagan's television adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie will debut on Prime Video on October 7, 2026. The streaming service released a new trailer for the eight-episode series, which updates the classic horror story for the modern era.

The trailer offers a clearer look at Flanagan's interpretation of the 1974 novel. It shows Carrie White, played by Summer H Howell, seemingly more aware of her telekinetic abilities and practicing moving objects with her mind. This aligns with the novel's depiction of her gradually building power before the infamous prom night. The new adaptation will incorporate social media and cyberbullying into the narrative of Carrie's torment, while retaining the traumatic scene of her first period at school.

Release Details and Cast

All episodes of the series will be released on Prime Video on October 7. The project brings Flanagan back to television and continues his run of Stephen King adaptations, which includes Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, and the upcoming The Life Of Chuck.

The main cast for the series was previously revealed by Variety. The ensemble features several actors familiar to Flanagan's previous work.

Production Background

The series began production in Vancouver earlier this year. Mike Flanagan serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, and will direct some of the episodes. According to Variety, the show is described as a "bold and timely reimagining" that follows Carrie after her father's death as she handles public high school, a bullying scandal, and her emerging powers.

This new version follows Brian De Palma's beloved 1976 film adaptation. Actor Katee Sackhoff, who is not in the cast, had previously hinted at the October 2026 release window during a Fan Expo Vancouver panel. She praised Flanagan's work, telling the audience, "You guys are in for a treat. It's very good." Sackhoff also commented on Stephen King's apparent trust in the filmmaker, suggesting Flanagan has significant access to King's library of work.

Flanagan has other King projects in development, including a new version of The Mist and a television series based on The Dark Tower. The Carrie series represents his first return to a full TV project since The Fall of the House of Usher.
