Hombale Films' international distribution of 'Hanuman Ansh' has grossed over $3.5 million outside India since its global rollout on September 11. The devotional film's overseas performance was led by strong returns from North America, Australasia, and the Gulf region.

Domestic success fuels global ambition

The film opened in India on August 7 on about 250 screens through Cinépolis India. Powered by word of mouth, its screen count later expanded to over 2,000. In seven weeks, 'Hanuman Ansh' has grossed INR340.7 crore (approximately $35.5 million) domestically. The story follows Lakshman Das, a boy who leaves home after his mother's death on a search for the divine.

Hombale leverages past learnings for strategic rollout

This marks a significant step for the Bengaluru-based studio behind the 'K.G.F' and 'Kantara' franchises. Hombale Films leveraged data and insights from previous releases, such as the animated hit 'Mahavatar Narsimha' which grossed over INR300 crore. For 'Hanuman Ansh', the company took full ownership of all global territories. It collaborated with major local partners, including Phars in the GCC and Prathyangara in North America, to secure optimal cinema chains and locations.

Producer Chaluve Gowda highlighted the move. "'Hanuman Ansh' is the first film outside of our own productions that we have full fledgedly distributed internationally," he said. The company aims to champion stories that align with its vision of taking Indian narratives to a global audience.

Creative vision behind the devotional project

'Hanuman Ansh' was written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, adapting his own book 'Divine Detour: That Changed My Life'. The film traces the spiritual journey of Lakshman Das as he becomes the saint Neem Karoli Baba, also known as Maharaj-ji. Shobhinaw Satyaa plays the title role, with Chandan Anand starring and Vihaan Shedge portraying the teenage Maharaj-ji. Supporting actors include Anil Rastogi and Purnima Tiwari.

Chaturvedi produced the film with Ragini Sona, Namrata G. Singh, and Anupriya A. Nagar under his Swambhu Media Network banner. He has planned 'Hanuman Ansh' as the first part of a trilogy.
