VisionQuest to Revisit Iron Man's Endgame Death

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will revisit Tony Stark's death from Avengers: Endgame in the upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest. Showrunner Terry Matalas revealed the series will explore the event from the perspective of Stark's artificial intelligence, F.R.I.D.A.Y.

In an interview with SFX Magazine Matalas explained the show's angle. "F.R.I.D.A.Y. Was there when Tony Stark died," he said. "What's that like for an AI, to not be able to protect the one they're programmed to protect?"

The Vision's Standalone Story

While VisionQuest is the final part of a trilogy that began with WandaVision, Matalas stressed it stands on its own. He told GamesRadar the series is "more the Vision story." The show will dig into the character's identity in ways the films and previous series could not, including exploring deeper parts of his origin. Matalas stated the series is "very much its own entity, but it does obviously touch upon what has come before for this guy."

Scarlet Witch Rumors Addressed

The showrunner also addressed speculation about Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch appearing. He clarified a comment about a late-season moment, emphasizing he was not teasing Wanda's return. "I want to make sure that people don’t think I’m teasing Wanda, because I’m not teasing Wanda," Matalas stated. He credited star Paul Bettany with an idea for a key scene, noting, "Paul had an amazing idea for the kind of scene it should be."

Returning Characters and Context

Other elements from WandaVision will carry over. Ruaridh Mollica will portray the teenage version of Tommy Maximoff. The series arrives as the wider MCU builds toward Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release in theaters this December. That film will reportedly feature Robert Downey Jr. Returning to the franchise, not as Iron Man, but as the villain Doctor Doom.

VisionQuest represents a deeper character study set against the backdrop of one of the franchise's most key moments. The exploration of F.R.I.D.A.Y.'s experience adds a new layer to a familiar tragedy.
