Rockstar's GTA 6 preview reveals new details
Rockstar Games released a 26-minute preview of Grand Theft Auto 6, featuring dual protagonists and improved graphics. The game launches on 19 November.

Rockstar Games has shown a 26-minute preview of Grand Theft Auto 6. The footage debuted on Netflix before appearing on YouTube, offering the first detailed look at the game in over 18 months.
The extended montage featured no commentary. It highlighted improved graphics, detailed environments, and classic series action like car chases and shoot-outs. This official preview followed a week of unauthorised gameplay leaks, which the developer described as "heartbreaking."
Dual protagonists and story
The preview focused heavily on the relationship between the two main characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Camino. Their story is a modern "Bonnie and Clyde" narrative. According to a preview on IGN, the player's actions can affect how this story unfolds, though players can opt out of deepening the bond between the pair.
The footage showed the ability to switch control between Jason and Lucia during gameplay. In one scene, Jason lowers Lucia from a window as they escape a drug bust. A similar character-switching system was used in Grand Theft Auto 5.
Visuals and scale
Reaction to the game's graphics has been overwhelmingly positive. Characters display photorealistic faces and lifelike movements. The detailed environments include apartment interiors, rooftop bars, and underground clubs.
The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, which is inspired by Florida. Players can explore Vice City, an area based on Miami that first appeared in 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The preview also showcased a diverse range of body shapes and sizes among background characters, a feature rarely seen in games.
Journalist Ryan McCaffrey said GTA 6 "might be the best-looking game I've ever seen." The visual quality is attributed to Rockstar's lengthy development time and a budget thought to be among the largest in gaming history.
Reports suggest the game's map is significantly larger than previous titles. YouTuber TGG, who claims he was invited to Rockstar's headquarters, says the developer told him the map is twice the size of GTA 5's. Rockstar has not confirmed this officially.
Core gameplay remains
Despite its advances, GTA 6 retains the series' core identity. The preview featured armed heists, car chases, and criminal underworld scenes. Satirical takes on US culture, dark comedy, and numerous side activities are all present.
The game also expands on systems from Red Dead Redemption 2, such as an honour system affecting the player's reputation. The series has sold an estimated half a billion copies since 1997.
Launch and online future
Rockstar has stated GTA 6 will be a "single-player experience" at launch. The Netflix preview did not show any multiplayer features. The long-term success of the game may depend on how well Rockstar converts players to a future online mode, similar to the hugely profitable GTA Online.
GTA 5, released in 2013, has sold over 200 million copies. The two official trailers for GTA 6 have nearly 500 million combined views on YouTube. Separately, Rockstar is due to appear at an employment tribunal in Scotland next month to defend against claims it illegally sacked ex-employees for union activity; the company strongly denies the accusations.
