Dave Bautista is officially replacing injured actor Ryan Hurst in Amazon's God Of War series. Amazon has confirmed that Bautista will play the role of Kratos, after Hurst suffered a serious injury during filming.

Background

The announcement comes a matter of weeks after Ryan Hurst, the actor previously cast as Kratos, was injured so seriously that he had to bow out of the production. According to the source, Film Stories, Hurst tore his bicep, an injury that takes months to heal, and the role of Kratos is a particularly physical one.

Casting

Variety reports that Dave Bautista, of WWE and Marvel fame, was in talks to take over the role. Bautista has the look for the Greek god and has proven himself capable of handling dramatic material in James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy trilogy. Amazon will now reshoot considerable chunks of the four episodes already completed, with Bautista in the lead.

Production

The God Of War series will be based on the video game series of the same name, particularly the two latest games in the franchise. The first season will follow the events of the first God Of War game, where Kratos and his son Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. The rest of the cast includes Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur.

Cast and Crew

Here is a list of the main cast and crew: The writer, showrunner, and executive producer is Ronald D. Moore. With production halted for the moment, there's no word when God Of War might make it to our screens, but the source, Film Stories, will keep us updated on that. The logline for the show is: Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye, through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human. Callum Vinson will still play Atreus, but according to Forbes, the role will be recast for season two.
