Lucy Davis, a 53-year-old actress, has expressed her gratitude for the support she received from fans after announcing her incurable breast cancer diagnosis. According to the BBC, Davis made an appearance at a London sci-fi convention, where she thanked fans for their kindness and support.

Career and Diagnosis

The actress, known for her role in the 2004 zombie-comedy Shaun of the Dead, was at the For The Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention at Excel London, less than two weeks after announcing her diagnosis on Instagram. Davis told the audience about the interactions she had with the film's fans, describing them as a "second family" and a "community" that is "friendly" and "supportive".

Fan Support

Davis signed autographs and posed for photographs before appearing on a panel, where she was joined by the film's director, Edgar Wright, and lead actor, Simon Pegg. Although some fans expressed their love and admiration for her, Davis was not directly asked about her health. The BBC reports that Davis had previously announced that her cancer had "metastasised" to her bones, making it "too late" for chemotherapy.

Advice and Memories

When asked for advice on getting into the film industry, Davis told the audience that "we all grow up with a different life with a different world telling us we all have limitations" but that "none of us do, our only limitations are things that we think are limiting". She also shared some of her favourite memories from filming Shaun of the Dead, including a time when the cast pretended to be zombies and walked across a square. The actress described it as "like being naughty schoolkids" and said "it was a fun time, we went a bit mad".

Reaction to Diagnosis

In a post on Instagram, two days after revealing her cancer diagnosis, Davis thanked fans for their "kindness and support", saying she was "in shock" at the attention her post received. She expressed her gratitude for the "tremendous amount of kindness and support" she received, describing it as "emotional". The BBC was the source of this information, which highlighted Davis' appreciation for her fans' support during a difficult time. Davis played Dianne, an aspiring actress, in the cult British movie Shaun of the Dead, and also played receptionist Dawn Tinsley in the BBC sitcom The Office, and her father is comedian Jasper Carrott.
