Netflix confirms new Inbetweeners film with original cast

Netflix has confirmed a new Inbetweeners movie is officially in production. The original cast of Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, and Joe Thomas will reprise their roles, with filming starting on Monday.

The film, referred to as The Inbetweeners 3, will continue the story of characters Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland, and Simon Cooper. The actors first played these roles in the popular E4 sitcom, which aired for three seasons from 2008 to 2010. The show followed the suburban teenagers' misadventures at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive.

Cast and creators return

Netflix announced that the series creators, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, will return to write and direct the new feature. The pair said it has been "super fun" hanging out with friends again. They added a characteristically quirky promise: "We're going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans."

While the four lead stars are confirmed, the rest of the cast remains unannounced. This leaves fans speculating about the potential return of supporting characters, such as Emily Atack's Charlotte Hinchcliffe or Emily Head's Carli D'Amato.

A legacy of sequels

The upcoming film follows two previous sequels backed by Film4. The first movie, released in 2011, saw the group travel to Crete for a post-sixth-form holiday. The 2014 sequel reunited the friends in Australia to visit Jay during his gap year.

According to Netflix, the first film made history as the biggest opening weekend for a UK comedy at the time of its release. The sequel also broke box office records.

Teaser and production details

Ahead of the announcement, Netflix released a brief teaser video. It shows Will, Simon, Neil, and Jay returning to their iconic yellow Fiat. The group piles into the small car, with Simon struggling to start the engine. After some encouragement, the car starts and they drive out of what appears to be a storage unit.

The confirmation ends months of speculation about another film. The show has continued to find new audiences over the years, with memorable clips gaining popularity on social media platforms alongside the existing films.
