The Gentlemen Season 3 filming begins soon

Theo James has confirmed that filming for the third season of Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen will begin very soon. The actor, who is also an executive producer on the Netflix series, revealed the news in an interview with ScreenRant ahead of the season 2 premiere.

James stated that production on season 3 is set to start "almost imminently." He described the upcoming season as one that "gets pretty gnarly," hinting at a darker tone. The actor suggested that some of the darkness from Eddie Horniman's journey in season 2 will be "expanded" upon in the next chapter.

Expanding the World

The new season will also take the story to new places. James shared that season 3 is "going to different locations" and will feature "new characters." The stated aim is "expanding the world even more" following the events of the second season. This expansion continues the trajectory set by season 2, which saw Eddie Horniman taking the criminal marijuana operation onto international waters.

Netflix renewed the series for a third season well before the second season's debut, indicating strong confidence in the show. The quick move to begin filming suggests scripts were prepared during the production of season 2. This could help reduce the gap between seasons; there was a two-year wait between the show's 2024 debut and the release of season 2.

A Busy Schedule

Part of the reason for the speedy renewal and filming schedule may be linked to creator Guy Ritchie's other commitments. Beyond The Gentlemen, Ritchie is working on MobLand season 2 for Paramount+ and Young Sherlock season 2 for Prime Video. He also has two films in development: Wife & Dog, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike, and Viva La Madness, a new project with Jason Statham.

Story Implications

James' comments also hint at the ongoing impact of Eddie's choices. The actor teased that a dark event from season 2 could continue to shape the character's path. With Eddie leaning further into the criminal underworld, he may face tougher moral decisions. James compared this potential evolution to iconic antiheroes like Walter White from Breaking Bad or Tony Soprano from The Sopranos.

The series, a spin-off of Ritchie's 2019 film, stars James as Eddie Horniman, a former Army captain who inherits a dukedom and discovers it is entangled with a vast cannabis empire. The cast also includes Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Ray Winstone, and Giancarlo Esposito. The show earned three Emmy nominations after its debut, winning one for Outstanding Stunt Coordination.

The Gentlemen season 2 premieres on Netflix on September 3.
