AMC has greenlit 'Happy Jack', a half-hour family comedy written and executive produced by Jim Patterson and Matt Ross. Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, expressed enthusiasm for the Sheens' involvement. The series marks AMC's first major foray into traditional multi-camera comedy.

Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen are set to star as father and son in the comedy series 'Happy Jack' at AMC and AMC+. The show is produced by AMC Studios. Dan McDermott issued a statement praising the project and welcoming the actors to the network. Jim Patterson and Matt Ross, who previously worked on Two and a Half Men and The Ranch, will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunners. The series will be part of AMC Global Media’s original programming slate presented to international buyers at MIPCOM in October.

Cast and character details

Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen previously portrayed father and son in Anger Management and Wall Street. In Happy Jack, Charlie Sheen will portray Jack Chambers, a lifelong ne’er-do-well. Martin Sheen will portray Jack Chambers’ father. The show’s logline involves Jack’s daughter Sam, a wild child more like her father, introducing a new boyfriend. The boyfriend, Paul, is a former investment banker turned van life guru who is the same age as Jack. Charlie Sheen mentioned that he is thrilled to be going back on television in a meaningful way. Martin Sheen has also guest-starred on Two and a Half Men and Spin City when Charlie starred on those shows.

Production and format

The multi-camera series will be shot before a live studio audience at Warner Bros. Studios. This is the same studio where Friends was filmed. Production is set to begin early next year in Los Angeles. The first season will consist of six episodes.

The series is slated to premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2027.

AMC's comedy strategy

Happy Jack represents AMC's debut into traditional half-hour multi-camera comedy. This is a departure from their recent focus. The network has previously aired dramedies like Kevin Can F*ck Himself and Lucky Hank. The most recent multi-camera comedy aired by AMC was Lucky Hank in 2023.

Production is set to begin early next year at Warner Bros. Studios for a 2027 launch on AMC and AMC+.
