Meanwhile, Universal Pictures has swapped release dates with The Mummy, which will now arrive in theaters on October 15, 2027, instead of May 2028.

The story follows Tubbs, a New York detective, as he travels to Miami to track down a drug trafficker responsible for his partner’s death. The film’s retro setting promises to bring back the series’ signature pastel suits, fast cars, and MTV-style aesthetic.
Rumored Villain Role for Tom Cruise
Earlier reports from industry insider Daniel Richtman suggested that Tom Cruise might play the villain in Miami Vice ’85. Cruise, who has collaborated with Kosinski on Oblivion (2013) and Top Gun: Maverick (2022), has occasionally taken on antagonistic roles, such as in Collateral (2004) and Tropic Thunder (2008). If confirmed, he could portray the Colombian drug lord Calderone, the villain from the original pilot.
However, this remains unconfirmed, and no official announcement has been made.
